Below are a number of resources and small utilities that we have developed to assist in automating and streamlining the Application Delivery Life Cycle. These range from data manipulation/replication spreadsheets with macros to templates to manage testing efforts.

Please feel free to download and use them freely, and give them to your friends and colleagues. If you have any questions or feedback, we’d love to hear from you.

  Test Data Management Spreadsheet

Purpose

This spreadsheet allows the management of functional and performance test cases from a single spreadsheet. It has been specifically designed to allow a single point of management for all Compuware QACenter automated test tools, including: QARun, TestPartner, and QALoad. As such, it can manage the test data for both functional and performance testing.

Usage

To use this tool, simply launch the spreadsheet with the MACRO ENABLED. Then follow these easy steps:

  1. Add as many tabs as you wish. Each tab should correspond to a different test case. For example, the spreadsheet is seeded with tabs “TestCase001”, and “TestCase002” as downloaded. These can be changed to whatever names you wish, but BE CAREFUL … the names of the TABS will become the names of the data files that are fed to the test cases.
  2. For each tab, change the column names into the names of each data field to be used in the specified test case. The sample tabs contain UserID, Password, AccountID, TransID, and Date as sample labels to give you the idea (HINT: the “Date” field contains the Excel function for pulling from the current system clock, so it will always give you the current date of the system from which it is pulled). Feel free to adjust these to your needs.
  3. Fill the data in the spreadsheet with as much data as you like, using each row as an additional combination of data for the specified test case.
  4. To save, hit “[CTRL]+S” (Hold down the “Control” key and hit “S”). This will i) create a “flat” ASCII data file with the contents of the selected tab and a “.dat” extension into the directory that the spreadsheet exists on, and ii) it will then resave the “XLS” version of itself. Feel free to look at the macro and adjust to your needs.
